What’s Locator.exe (Rpc Locator)? Is it safe or a virus?

Locator.exe is the executable for the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator service in Microsoft Windows, responsible for managing the RPC name service database. In Windows Server 2003 and earlier versions, this service was essential for locating RPC services on the network. However, starting with Windows Vista, the RPC Locator service no longer provides any functionality and is present only for application compatibility. Therefore, in modern Windows versions, this service is typically unnecessary and can remain disabled without affecting system operations
