Its primary function is to remap the Caps Lock key to act as an additional Control key, which can be particularly useful for users transitioning from UNIX systems or those who prefer an alternative keyboard layout.
According to Microsoft, originally, ctrl2cap.exe operated as a kernel-mode filter driver, intercepting keyboard input at a low level. However, as of version 3.0 released on February 13, 2025, it has been updated to function without requiring a driver, enhancing compatibility with modern Windows versions like Windows 10 and 11 .

The signature on the executable should have been verified through a third party whose job it is to make sure the entity is who it says it is. Find an unsigned executable?
