What’s watchdog.exe (Business Agent Upgrader)? Is it safe or a virus?

Watchdog.exe by Avast Software s.r.o. is part of the partnership between Avast, and Watchdog ID.

A press release I found online said "ID Watchdog's proprietary identity protection and detection technology has been fully integrated into the updated version of AVAST Software's award-winning 6.0 antivirus software, available to all US consumers for free."

ID Watchdog is an identity theft protection service offering monitoring for personal and financial information to detect fraud. It includes features like credit report monitoring, dark web surveillance, and alerts for high-risk transactions. In case of identity theft, ID Watchdog provides specialists to help with recovery and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

What does it mean if someone is the publisher of a PC .exe (executable or process)?

The publisher of an executable is the entity responsible for its distribution and authenticity. Most processes/executables on your PC should be signed. The signature on the executable should have been verified through a third party whose job it is to make sure the entity is who it says it is. Find an unsigned executable? You should consider scanning any completely unsigned .exe on your PC.
