What’s LiveUpdateChecker.exe (LiveUpdate Checker)? Is it safe or a virus?

At our SpyShelter Cybersecurity Lab here in Austin, Texas, we have quite a few Acer devices. One thing we've noticed is that Acer likes to run a lot of its own software on its PCs, and Acer's LiveUpdateChecker.exe (LiveUpdate Checker) is the app that's responsible for keeping Acer-specific software up to date.

When this executable file is run, it scans the system and contacts Acer's servers to see if there are any new updates available for the user's Acer devices. Once updates are found, the program prompts the user to download and install them. This ensures that the user's Acer products are up-to-date with the latest firmware and software.

This .exe is safe, as long as it's signed by Acer. We at SpyShelter recommend you keep Acer's LiveUpdate Checker running, in case one of their Acer-specific apps needs a software update related to performance or security.

The publisher of an executable is the entity responsible for its distribution and authenticity. Most processes/executables on your PC should be signed.
